THE CHARLES THOMSON AWARD
This Award will be presented to the Local Authority (LA) that has done the most to promote Water Safety on the island of Ireland between 1st January 2008 and 31st December 2008.
The Submission Format must be used for this competition. Additional information should be included in Appendices if necessary.
Criteria
- Work completed by the LA to raise public awareness in the media (15 Marks)
- Work completed in promoting Water Safety in schools (15 Marks)
- A new, novel initiative or special event used to promote Water Safety (15 Marks)
- Improved provision of lifesaving equipment (10 Marks)
- Improved maintenance and inspection of lifesaving equipment (10 Marks)
- Increase and improvement in Lifeguard services, including increased lifeguard cover (15 Marks)
- Public awareness programmes (10 Marks)
- Increased signage, in particular of dangerous bathing areas (10 Marks)
- Provision of Byelaws to improve Water Safety (10 Marks)
- Donation or assistance given to local voluntary Community Search & Rescue Services (10 Marks)
- Amount of resource allocated towards the inspection of Public Rescue Equipment (10 Marks)
- Improvement of facilities at bathing areas (10 Marks)
- Improvement of swimming pool facilities and water safety activities to the public for lifesaving and swimming instruction (10 Marks)
- Other appropriate contributions to, and investments in, water safety (10 Marks)
